The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a multi-district, grassroots leadership development program of member districts organized into regional divisions in various parts of the world. It is not an official program of Rotary International and is not under its control. The RLI seeks to have Rotary Clubs in member districts identify those Rotarians who seem to have the POTENTIAL for future club leadership (not necessarily as club presidents) and provide those so identified with a quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills for voluntary organizations.

SPECIAL PRECONVENTION EDITION

A very enjoyable event at Rotary International Conventions for the past nine years has been the Annual RLI Breakfast. The Birmingham RLI Breakfast will feature as principal speaker, one of Rotary's most respected Past R.I. Presidents, Cliff Dochterman of California, USA. Cliff is also one of Rotary's most popular speakers. Representing the R.I. Board of Directors at the Breakfast as guest speakers will be R.I. Vice-President Monty Audenart of Alberta, Canada and R.I. Director Mike Colasurdo of New Jersey, USA.

RLI Session and Faculty training in D2450 Egypt

International RLI Secretary Ward Vuillemot, a member of the RLI International Training Team, traveled to Egypt earlier this month to assist in a Part I session and to conduct faculty orientation sessions for additional RLI discussion leaders. The visit was coordinated by D2450 Training Chair, Colette Frege Hager and supported by District Governor Zakaria E. Shafei. Upon arrival in Cairo, Ward worked with a few previously trained discussion leaders to provide a Part I session for fifteen local Rotarians. The following day, these efforts were moved to the D2450 Conference venue in Sahl Hashish-Hurghada, Egypt. During the following few days, fourteen Past Presidents attended two faculty orientation sessions to be RLI discussion leaders. As the direct result of these sessions and International Vice-Chair Frank Wargo's efforts last year together with Colette's drive, RLI has and will continue to be a viable and valuable training program in District 2450. (Note that Egypt and Sudan will constitute a separate district in 2011.)

RLI PHILOSOPHY

"Having leadership skills does not alone assure good Rotary leadership. An effective Rotary leader must ALSO have Rotary knowledge, perspective about where Rotary has been, where it is now going and a vision of what Rotary can be."
